The Site Changes

January 16th, 2010

So I was so excited about this website that I decided to make some serious changes to it. My eyeballs sure like the new look and I think that others will like the new improved look. I've also added some new elements to the xml backend along with a general stylesheet parser.

  1. New background
  2. Opacity on the two side bars
  3. Increased visual space in the center island
  4. Generalized style sheet in XML
  5. Ordered lists
  6. Unorder lists

I have finally converted the webpage to process xml. I suppose I should say that the site is still in the beginning states of the xml life but it will get there.

Reasons for converting to xml:
1. Extensibility
2. Easier on the editor backend
3. I like being sane

So there are three reasons and I do have more that aren't written. Just think I don't have to deal with some of the weirdness of html with my editor now.

The entries don't show up in order of the date entry because they show up in the order that I edited and converted them to xml. This is correct functionality as I'll be extending by xml to deal with when entries are edited.

This is my beginning of changing the ajax to parsing xml files. Oh wait and I'm going to Ha ha ha! include a weather entry here.
So if you are patient please wait a few more days and I'll have this up and going. I have the xml processing how I want and I need to convert the current entries.

Well I got some of the ajax implemented on the site. That means that functionality is coming together slowly and so is my studying. This is my first time to do a complete ajax and not just manipulating the different DOM attributes. So this is interesting and now my mind is running with ideas of what I am going to do. Now I am on the the database backend and then I'll be working on an editor so that I can easily make entries here for the different sections of the webpage. I don't want any weak editor though for this website and that will probably take considerable time to do as that will be one of the biggest driving forces to the look and feel of this whole site.

Database, hacking, and life

June 14th, 2009

Well I got this on a database now so I can easily add entries to this site without doing much with html. That part actually quite pleases me. The other part is that I'm tired of hackers. I've had my computer hacked into twice in the past six months and I keep getting attacked. I was able to figure out how it was done both times and fortunately I had my computer up to date so that the exploits that could have been worse were not successful. So the hackers are not my friends right now.
